Eleanora Fagan (April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959), better known as Billie Holiday, was an American jazz singer with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Billie Holiday: American jazz singer with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. She was known for her vocal delivery and improvisational skills, which made up for her limited range and lack of formal music education. I Love You, A Fine Romance, PS I Love You и другие песни.

Official Billie Holiday Page. Hard to believe the rest of her French dates were viciously cancelled by the promoter. Despite this she would stay on in Paris and play a small club for a percentage of the door. Billie never backed down.

Billie Holiday is one of the greatest jazz singers of the 20th century (competing at the same level as Frank Sinatra & Ella Fitzgerald). Her friend tenor saxophonist Lester Young gave her the nickname Lady Day and their recordings together are some of her best, possessing a joy and playfulness not found in the emotional intensity of her later recordings

Billie Holiday (Eleanora Fagan Gough, Philadelphia, PA, April 7, 1915 – New York City, NY, July 17, 1959) was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed Lady Day by her loyal friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday was a highly original influence on jazz and pop singing. Above all, she was admired for her deeply personal and intimate approach to singing.
