Under its exclusive contract with Chandos, Collegium Musicum 90 has made more than sixty CDs, forty of them with Simon Standage. The musical influence of the famous Arcangelo Corelli is witnessed in this set of recordings of unjustly neglected concertos by three of his pupils. The variety of these works is captured by the period instruments of the critically acclaimed baroque ensemble Collegium Musicum 90 under the direction of its founder, Simon Standage, who is also soloist here.

Maestro Corelli’s Violins. Simon Standage (violin & conductor) - Gramophone Magazine, June 2017 Mor. elease Date: 28th Apr 2017. Corelli demanded the highest standards of ensemble-playing just as director Simon Standage does here at the head of Collegium Musicum 90, whose brilliance and togetherness is a delight throughout the six string concertos on this disc. Although not a note of Corelli’s music is heard, this release is enlightening regarding the development of Italian music from this time.

The "classic" Baroque concertos of Corelli actually represented a simplification of experiments carried out by earlier composers, the Bolognese Giuseppe Torelli central among them. Torelli is usually associated in Baroque listeners' minds with a few trumpet concertos, two of which (labeled sinfonias) are heard here. The short concertos for one or two violins (mostly six or seven minutes long, for three movements) are rarer but very attractive. They don't have the clean symmetries of the Vivaldian concerto, instead exploiting various ways of breaking up a movement into solo. GB. Chaconne (early music sub-label of Chandos).

Simon Standage, Collegium Musicum 90 - Albinoni: Homage to a Spanish Grandee - Concertos from Op. 10 (2010). Simon Standage - Maestro Corelli's Violins (2017).

This album of Torelli's most influential music contains six fully developed three-movement solo violin concertos and six for two violins. 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM – Chandos Studio Masters.

Simon Standage and the Collegium Musicum really play these Torelli compositions superbly with nary a harsh tone just beautiful early Baroque music. Please be aware that Standage and the Collegium are NOT from the "churn it out" and the "sewing machine" school of playing Baroque music. If anything the sound they produce is rather mellow. Don't misunderstand me, there are loads of virtuosity displayed in the fast movements and plenty of "feeling" in the slow; however, all is delivered most beautifully
