Acceptance Speech is the fifth studio album by American rock band Dance Gavin Dance, released on October 8, 2013, on Rise Records. The album serves as a follow-up to the band's fourth studio album, Downtown Battle Mountain II (2011), and is the band's first studio album to feature clean vocalist Tilian Pearson, bass guitarist Tim Feerick, and guitarist Josh Benton. It is the band's only studio album to feature Benton on rhythm guitar, who departed shortly after the album's release

What she is, is a member of a formidable group of artists who've impacted the world in a variety of meaningful (and entertaining) ways, all tracing their roots back to one spectacular moment in time: Danceteria. A dance club that NYC nightlife veteran Steve Lewis describes as having been . creative cauldron, like a brilliant comet that flew the sky and cut through all the other bullshit. Danceteria opened its doors in 1979 as the accidental anti-Studio 54 but Lewis says that comparing the two is doesn't tell the full story. It's unfair to compare it to other clubs," he opines. Studio 54 was the Michael Jordan of nightclubs. With all of this going on concurrently on a nightly basis, it was one of the first venues that provided a curated, multi-level, multimedia experience. You didn't go to see one specific DJ, or for the night; you went for the club itself" says Lewis.

This is the heaviest rock album the P-Funk ever created, but it also made room for the acoustic-guitar funk of Can You Get to That. I Want Your Sex" is one of the decade's finest Prince imitations, and the best ballad is the spooky, soulful "Father Figure.

Now this is a story all about how My life got flipped turned upside down And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air. In West Philadelphia born and raised On the playground is where I spent most of my days Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school When a couple of guys who were up to no good Started making trouble in my neighborhood I got in one little fight and my mom got scared

Muscling into Ministry of Sound territory and giving that label's Annual series some serious competition, Universal's This Is Dance 2014 rounds up a huge mound of dancefloor hits, most of them quite necessary. Maybe MOS beats Universal when it comes to filler, since there are just a couple daft tracks here, but there are two giant megamixes tacked to the end of this set as a bonus, making party starting ever so simple
