Fire It Up is the third album by American musician Rick James, released on October 16, 1979, on the Motown sub-label Gordy Records. This album was certified gold by the RIAA, and between 1978 and 1982 was a period where Rick James established himself as the historical bridge between P-Funk and Prince. Fire It Up was released on CD for the first time in 2010, by Universal Records

This is pressed on real vinyl, another variation on " Styrene" exists Love Gun, Stormy Love.

Rick James's third album in 18 months may have spread the funk a little thin (or saturated the market), since Fire It Up was not as effective as his first two efforts. The usual mix of rock and R&B had some disco added, which dulled the music's edge and made it more formulaic. At the same time, James's single-entendre come ons, notably the album's biggest single, "Love Gun," were beginning to sound less provocative than just smutty

February 1, 1948 – August 6, 2004) was an American singer, songwriter, musician and record producer, best known for being the major popularizer of funk music in the late 1970s and early 1980s thanks to million-selling hits such as "You and I" (1978), "Give It to Me Baby" (1981) and "Super Freak" (1981), the latter song crossing

Rick James to you. Little surprise he becomes a musician: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, Etta James and many more play his hometown. Thanks to his mother’s record collection, Rick’s childhood soundtrack includes Billie Holiday, Billy Eckstine, Sarah Vaughan. The momentum continues with 1979’s Love Gun and 1980’s Big Time, but Rick really steps up to the plate with Street Songs in 1981. His rhythms moved effortlessly back and forth between P-Funk chant, late disco thunder and reggae syncopation, contends author and historian Craig Werner, correctly. The album spends almost 18 months on the Billboard pop charts, peaking in the Top 3 and selling millions. At the end of the ’80s, . Hammer samples Super Freak in his U Can’t Touch This smash, earning Rick a Grammy for his part in the best R&B song of 1990.
