Carmen Lundy solves the problem on this CD by writing six of her own songs, both lyrics and music. Her talents in that area are impressive and it would not be surprising if a few future standards came out of her repertoire. Lundy's memorable, deep voice, which has a wide range, can go very low (as heard on Jobim's "Triste") and on "Firefly" she overdubs a second part, making the performance sound like a male-female duet.

Audio CD, Original recording remastered, September 24, 1996. A wonderful album from a truly great artist. I saw Carmen perform in 1995 in the Jazz Cafe in London. She performed with a painful intensity. I actually found myself feeling uncomfortable about how much she was willing to reveal of herself through performance. She is the best singer I have seen, the real deal. I can't believe that she has not become as well known as a Diana Krall - maybe if she was white and blonde? I bought the album at the concert and was blown away. Great covers of some not so well known songs and beatiful moving compositions of her own.

The following year she had her first appearance on a self-titled album from a group called Jasmine featuring Bill O'Connell and Steve Berrios (West 54 Records). In 1980 she formed her own trio, performing with pianists John Hicks and Onaje Gumbs. She has also performed with Walter Bishop J. Don Pullen, Mulgrew Miller, Billy Childs, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kip Hanrahan, Courtney Pine, Marian McPartland, and the band Quasimode.
