Slow Loris later changed their name to John Henry Calvinist after finding out there was a Canadian band with the same name. This was the name used by David MacKinnon, despite the fact his name doesn't appear anywhere on this release.

the revenant eloquence of john fahey, and then rattle its cage with the r&b voodoo of tav falco and alex chilton. in years to come, the man's body of work - finely tuned and articulated, presented with a rare grace and force of logic - is surely going to be seen as one of the primary visions of australian folk art. it took. me a while to realise it, but i learned a helluva lot from david: his thought shattered my preconceptions and sent my thinking about rock'n'roll's true history hurtling in the right direction. thanks david, you will be missed

Surface mining, including strip mining, open-pit mining and mountaintop removal mining, is a broad category of mining in which soil and rock overlying the mineral deposit (the overburden) are removed, in contrast to underground mining, in which the overlying rock is left in place, and the mineral is removed through shafts or tunnels. Surface mining began in the mid-sixteenth century and is practiced throughout the world, although the majority of surface coal mining occurs in North America.

John Henry is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock group They Might Be Giants. It was released in 1994. The album's name, a reference to the man versus machine fable of John Henry, is an allusion to the band's fundamental switch to more conventional instrumentation, especially the newly established use of a human drummer instead of a drum machine.

Limited Atonement - Because God determined that certain ones should be saved as a result of God’s unconditional election, He determined that Christ should die for the elect alone. All whom God has elected and for whom Christ died will be saved (Matthew 1:21; John 10:11; 17:9; Acts 20:28; Romans 8:32; Ephesians 5:25). Irresistible Grace - Those whom God elected He draws to Himself through irresistible grace. God makes man willing to come to Him. When God calls, man responds (John 6:37, 44; 10:16)

Watch or read the tale of the life and death of a Calvinist in this video-poem by John Piper. A Poem by John Piper. See him on his knees, Hear his constant pleas: Heart of ev’ry aim: Hallowed be Your name. See him with his books: Tree beside the brooks, Drinking at the root Till the branch bear fruit.

John Henry is an African American folk hero. He is said to have worked as a "steel-driving man"-a man tasked with hammering a steel drill into rock to make holes for explosives to blast the rock in constructing a railroad tunnel. According to legend, John Henry's prowess as a steel-driver was measured in a race against a steam-powered rock drilling machine, a race that he won only to die in victory with hammer in hand as his heart gave out from stress
