That album (not this one) positively sparkles - the Beethoven concerto (one of the greatest compositions and essential listening) is conveyed with great insight and compassion, and the Mozart is lifted beyond the level it deserves. The conductor on the present album is dreary, plodding, and largely untuned to the meaning of the music. I think someone said 'go slowly - it sounds makes you sound thoughtful!'. It just makes this track, albeit with Kennedy's great playing, sound uninformed and rather miserable

Ludwig van Beethoven composed his Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, in 1806. Its first performance by Franz Clement was unsuccessful and for some decades the work languished in obscurity, until revived in 1844 by Joseph Joachim. Since then it has become one of the best-known violin concertos. Beethoven had previously written a number of pieces for violin and orchestra.
