Warren Haynes Featuring Railroad Earth - Ashes & Dust flac album

Railroad Earth (6 piece new-grass jamband) provides great support giving all these songs (8 out of 13 which are Haynes originals) an instantly comfortable and enjoyable feel (like fitting on that perfect boot that will give no blisters and last for many miles of trail). I enjoyed the whole of Disc1 even though Haynes' song writing itself is only so-so, and the more stripped down demo versions on the shorter disc 2 aren't bad, although none of them seem essential. I'm a big Warren Haynes fan, but I'm thinking he collaborated with Railroad Express to give them more exposure. There's sort of a bluegrass flavor to this album, which I'm not used to with Warren; I'm more into seeing him collaborate with Joe Bonnamassa or Derek Trucks. I bought this MP3 because I heard Gold Dust Woman and Spots of Time on Sirius XM's Jam station and loved them. Turns out, they are the best cuts.

Warren Haynes (born April 6, 1960) is an American musician, singer and songwriter. Haynes is best known for his work as longtime guitarist with the Allman Brothers Band and as founding member of the jam band Gov't Mule. Early in his career he was a guitarist for David Allan Coe and The Dickey Betts Band. Haynes also is known for his associations with the surviving members of the Grateful Dead, including touring with. The album features songs written over the past 30 years. As Haynes explains in a press release, I’ve been writing songs all my life from a more folky, singer-songwriter, even Celtic direction. For a while, I’ve been compiling songs that didn’t necessarily fit in with Gov’t Mule or the Allman Brothers or even my last solo album. So this record was really a chance to bring a lot of that music to fruition. To back him up on the project, Haynes brought in Railroad Earth, an Americana band from New Jersey. We’ve known each other casually for several years, Haynes continues, and then at Del-Fest a few years ago, we winged a few songs together and it went really well. they joined me for part of the set. We did that with a little more rehearsal, more preparation, and it was a great experience.
