I'm never not in the mood for these songs.

If Hammerhead's debut was to alternative rock what Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer was to independent film - a harrowing glimpse into the cold, hard heart of darkness - Into the Vortex is more like Quentin Tarantino's equally violent, but more sophisticated Reservoir Dogs. On their sophomore release (not counting the live EP, Evil Twin), the band applies a greater degree of finesse to their bloodthirsty din. Although the record pummels as hard as their 1993 debut, Ethereal Killer, vocals have become a bigger part of the equation and the pace isn't quite so unrelenting.

Into the Vortex' will NEVER be lost, though. This album sums up more about modern life in nine songs than most groups manage in a whole career. 17 people found this helpful. Hammerhead was so ahead of their time they went their entire young careers without hardly an ounce of recognition and somehow flew under the radar until they broke up. Now here in the latter part of the year of 2010, almost twenty years after they started playing basement shows for nobody, they've reformed and are better than ever. I just got back from the Amrep 25th anniversary bash and it seemed like everyone in the crowd was there to see Hammerhead because they had missed them the first time around.
