Saw an actual Kim Jung Mi album sleeve in Seoul the other day, in a bar where they played, on request, a track from an actual vinyl. Kim Jung Mi is one of my favourite Korean artists, despite remaining fairly obscure to most Koreans I meet. I've wanted to record this for years but for whatever reason it's not happened, so thanks again, Joe, for helping me get a recording of this I'm pleased with. One of my favourite albums is Now by Kim Jung Mi. She was a singer during the 70's in South Korea and has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. A dude named Shin Jung Hyun took her on as his protogé, having her make albums of songs that he had written and recorded with his bands The Men and The Donkeys. As far as I know he was held in very high regard back then in Korea but was all but unknown outside.

For this album, he took a young girl named Kim Jung Mi, and transformed her from a wallflower student into a folk-psych chanteuse in record time (if Francoise Hardy is the Marianne Faithful of France, then Kim Jung Mi is, I suppose, the Francoise Hardy of Korea). The ten songs on Now were written and recorded during 1973 with a firm mandate to create a truly psychedelic sound experience. On each number, Shin Joong Hyun and his backing group laid down pure emotion on tape.
