Black One is the fifth album by Sunn O))). It is a combination of both experimental and traditional Sunn O))), utilizing many guest musicians, including black metal musicians Malefic and Wrest from Xasthur and Leviathan, respectively. The band supposedly also went so far as to lock the claustrophobic Malefic in a casket to record the vocals on "Báthory Erzsébet".
Love hate relationships demark an indisoluble conflict of self interests, when some things are likeable but at the same time undesirable, when this happens there are only two options, to deal with the difficulty implied in the ambiguity or else to retire altogether from trying it. That's where Sunn o))) exists. In a difficult relationship with the listener. Whereas these listeners represent the judging minority, not the fanatic majority.
black one is a very dark, gloomy, and atmospheric album, but i cant see much to it aside from that. some of the songs went on for way too long without progressing, and the vocals were drowning under the heavy guitars. Or consider a donation?
The sixth and darkest sunn 0))) album featuring very special guests Oren Ambarchi, Wrest (Leviathan/Lurker of Chalice/ Twilight) Malefic (Xasthur, Twilight) and John Weise (Bastard Noise). Tonal magma explosions created under the influence of utter blackest atmospheres, sunn 0))) endlessly seeks to push boundaries and demolish pre-conceived ideas of their eminence. Unorthodox and experimental recording methods were used to obtain the petrifying eerie tone of the voices on this album. For the epic side 4 piece, Bathory Erzebet, sunn 0))) procured a casket then loaded it into a Cadillac Hearse, and locked Malefic inside with only a microphone and a severe sense of claustrophobia. The result is truly suffocating and disturbing! Mammoth giants crushing valleys of the drowned. This album is as bleak, crushing, and devoid of light as only they possibly could.
Black One Album Art Lyrics.
First off, this album was exceptionally difficult to get into. I am usually open minded as far as my musical tastes are concerned, yet this album confused me when I first listened. The music simply did not draw me in. Subsequent spins offered up a little more each time, but after listening to Black One several times I found it to be only average at best. The only song that held any initial appeal for me was It Took the Night to Believe. At 5:56, this song is the second shortest track on the album, and therein lay its appeal.
Got it. + add. album.
