On November 10, 2007, Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys performed at a rally for presidential candidate John Edwards in Des Moines, Iowa, just before the Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner. Between renditions of "Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Orange Blossom Special", Stanley told the crowd that he had cast his first vote for Harry S. Truman in 1948 and would cast his next for John Edwards in 2008. Stanley was widely known in the world of bluegrass music by the popular title, "Dr. Ralph Stanley" after being awarded an honorary Doctor of Music from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, in 1976. He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1992 and in 2000. The Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center opened in Clintwood, Virginia in 2004. Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Ralph Stanley II & The Clinch Mountain Boys. After all, the doors of opportunity would be quicker to open, and the spotlight of public attention that so many artists spend years trying to cultivate would be yours becaus. el. ust because. Famous by default, so to speak and doubtless those are real, tangible advantages. But then there's the downside- pressure.

Back in the rock and roll-dominated early 70s, not many people were paying attention to the sound of traditional bluegrass as practiced by one of its greatest artists, Ralph Stanley, and his band The Clinch Mountain Boys. But there were two very notable exceptions. Due to a flat tire, Stanley and the Boys were late for a gig in Fort Gay, West Virginia when the club owner spotted two kids with instruments in the crowd and invited them on stage to fill the time. Well, those two boys were, of course, Ricky Skaggs and Keith Whitley, and the album initially titled Tribute to the Stanley Brothers by Keith Whitley and Ricky Skaggs, but later changed to Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys Featuring Keith Whitley and Ricky Skaggs after they officially joined Ralph s outfit was recorded in January 1971 with The Clinch Mountain Boys backing.

Ralph Stanley And The Clinch Mountain Boys: 1971-1973. Already knowing the outstanding reputation of this particular bluegrass band, I was somewhat disappointed when I listened to the first 12 secular bluegrass songs (album one) on Echoes Of The Stanley Brothers. All 12 of these secular bluegrass songs have some bluegrass merit, with Roy Lee Centers singing outstanding lead vocals on some of the songs and Curly Ray Cline adding two excellent fiddle tunes, but only three of these 12 songs, Are You Proud of America and Curly Ray Cline's two fiddle tunes, truly stand out as among Ralph Stanley's finest music. Even when we come to the first.
