Themes From William Blake's The Marriage Of Heaven And Hell is the fourth studio album by Norwegian experimental collective Ulver. Produced with Kristoffer Rygg, together with Knut Magne Valle and Tore Ylwizaker, it was issued on December 17, 1998 via Jester Records. It is a musical adaptation of William Blake's poem The Marriage of Heaven and Hell.
The Marriage of Heaven and Hell is a book by the English poet and printmaker William Blake. It is a series of texts written in imitation of biblical prophecy but expressing Blake's own intensely personal Romantic and revolutionary beliefs. Like his other books, it was published as printed sheets from etched plates containing prose, poetry and illustrations. The plates were then coloured by Blake and his wife Catherine.
Themes From William Blake's (Cass, Album, Unofficial). Moon Records (2). none. Unparalleled inspiration to transfer Blake's masterpiece. Higly innovative music. And Garm offering the vocal testament of his life. Just listen to plates 22-24. They reached their limit.
Ulver never fails to amaze, or at least cause controversy. Every single album they put out is almost a complete 180 from the last, which, although strange, is a very admirable quality to this band, and Marriage is no different. Following the route taken by Garm's other offbeat (but godly!) project Arcturus, Ulver has become a strange mix of metal, electronic, folk, and utter strangeness. 1999 proved to be the year of bizarre metallic releases, from Dødheimsgard and Solefald to the new Arcturus. It must have been a long cold winter in Norway (no glam puns intended) because Ulver wants its.
A Memorable Fancy 1. As I was walking among the fires of hell, delighted with the enjoyment of genius, which to angels look like torment and insanity, I collected some of their proverbs: thinking that as the saying used in a nation mark its character. So the proverbs of hell shew the nature of infernal wisdom better than any description of buildings or garments

Even their label was caught off guard to the point that Ulver was dropped and forced to find someone else to release their album. If the label dropped them, then some might assume that it was because the music was terrible, but that is not the case
The Blake Album is not an exception, as the resemblance to such artists as Laibach, Godflesh and others referred to as sources of blatant plagiarism, is light at best. It is quite the opposite actually, as the group's fourth studio album is one of the finest examples of originality, as well as ambition and substance together, in modern music that I can think of at the moment. Well, my view of them changed since I listened to this album. The narrators of Blake's lines are all astounding and if you are familiar with the book, you feel that this is the perfect way to transform it into music.
