Limited Release of Somewhere in the Sierras Instrumental + Handwritten Lyrics. Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album. s debut record Somewhere in the Sierras. I am offering the sale for 4 days and limiting it to 200 (or however many sells in 4 days if they do not sell out). This is the instrumental version of the debut alone. LP titled Somewhere in the Sierras. In early 2014, A Lot Like Birds' guitarist/composer Michael Franzino launched a successful Indiegogo campaign to fund the inception of his solo endeavor, softer musical counterpart: alone. In an attempt to fully immerse himself into the creative process, the project entailed him intentionally isolating himself in a cabin somewhere in The Sierra Mountain Range for two months to compose the album.

Truly, though, the highlight of the album is in the closer Maternity Leave (Funeral March 28th), a song written about his mother who overdosed when he was 18. The song is an open letter to her apologizing for him being a prideful teenager ( I’m sorry you left when I was still angry, my pride subsided eventuall., detailing how he and his sister have turned out okay despite it all ( I’m sorry my sister grew to a woman without a mom, and I pray that she never takes. Somewhere in the Sierras is a beautiful and haunting release, and one that is worth your time.

Somewhere In The Sierras is his journey of bringing out all of his internalized or repressed emotions that were never expressed fully on his efforts in A Lot Like Birds. It is correct to say that alone. is a completely different animal with a similar writing style, but stylistically and sonically a completely different sound with an entirely different experience. Pick any song on the album (except for 'Interlude for Andrew Dammar') and notice how they do not sound anything like another track on here.
