Hyperion is an epistolary novel by German poet Friedrich Hölderlin. Originally published in two volumes in 1797 (Volume 1) and 1799 (Volume 2), respectively, the full title is Hyperion; or, The Hermit in Greece (German: "Hyperion; oder, Der Eremit in Griechenland"). Each volume is divided into two books, with each second book including an epigraph from Sophocles.

Hyperion oder Der Eremit in Griechenland ist ein Roman von Friedrich Hölderlin  . Der Name Hyperion bedeutet „der oben Gehende. Hyperion erschien in zwei Bänden 1797 und 1799. Es ist ein lyrischer Briefroman, dessen äußere Handlung gegenüber den inneren Erfahrungen nur untergeordnete Bedeutung hat und dessen strömender Gefühlsreichtum in sprachliche Klangfülle gebannt ist. Der Roman ist ein Selbstbekenntnis, das trotz mancher jugendlich-schwärmerischen Züge Hölderlins Lebensschau und Seelentum vergegenwärtigt. Die Natur, die in den Schlussbriefen hymnisch gefeiert wird, wird verehrt als der gotterfüllte Raum.
