Two previous Caravan albums with titles that are also sexual plays on words are If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You (1970) and For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night (1973). Dave Hitchcock is a former record producer working with Genesis, Caravan, Camel, Curved Air and Renaissance. Some notable users of the Electric XII were Pete Townshend, who used it extensively on the album Tommy, folk-rocker Tim Buckley, and Jimmy Page, who used it on Led Zeppelin's famous "Stairway to Heaven" on the studio recording and on Jeff Beck's "Beck's Bolero". For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night. Caravan were already well-rehearsed for this album, having played much of the material live. Of the extra tracks, only 'Derek's Long Thing' (another title from the school of 'Carry On' humour) is completely new. Its eleven minutes are pleasant enough, led off by one of their less-favoured instruments, the piano, but it isn't as good as anything on the original album. I'm not convinced that this is better than the earlier material but it's a great album nevertheless and the band seem more energised than ever.
