Black Sea is the fourth studio album by the English band XTC, released 12 September 1980 on Virgin Records. Rock (Is Going to Help Me)". The album itself remains XTC's second-highest charting British album, placing at number 16, and the most successful US album of their career, peaking at number 41 on the Billboard 200.

Black Sea' saw XTC move permanently away from the high-pitched nervous energy of their earlier works to a far more 'rock' sounding band (later to be eclipsed by pastoral then psychedelic flavoured releases) ' is an excellent ode to miscommunication) the attention grabbing, hook-laden singles are probably the weakest tracks on the album strangely, as is the mood of the album which, despite it's up-tempo nature seems dark and complex (rather like the sleeve cover!).

Of course, the band's skewed outlook and mid-'60s pop sense keeps things from becoming too heavy - included are some of their finest songs, like "Respectable Street," "Generals and Majors," and "Towers of London," as well as the thoroughly enjoyable pop fluff throwaway "Sgt. Rock (Is Going to Help Me)" to keep the mood light.

Early copies of the album came with the sleeve enclosed in a lime-green paper bag. There was an additional version that came packaged in a black plastic bag with the XTC logo in silver printed on one side. The band's name is hidden in the cover artwork.
