For their third album, Construction Time Again, Depeche Mode worked with producer Gareth Jones, at John Foxx's Garden Studios and at Hansa Studios in West Berlin (where much of David Bowie's trilogy of seminal electronic albums featuring Brian Eno had been produced). The album saw a dramatic shift in the group's sound, due in part to Wilder's introduction of the Synclavier and E-mu Emulator samplers. This is the first Depeche Mode album to feature lyrics written by Gahan and, consequently, the first album since 1984's Some Great Reward featuring songs not written by Gore.

Depeche Mode – Master & Servant. From 1984's Some Great Reward, this ode to sexy whips and chains is fun for the whole family. Speaking of epic album openers, Never Let Me Down is the standout welcome melody to Depeche Mode's landmark album Music For The Masses. It's echo-heavy drum pattern was inspired by Led Zeppelin, led by heavy, swirling guitar riffs from Gore. The song was released at a time when Depeche Mode weren't actually under specific contract. Even cuter is the fact that Gore publishes his own music under a company called Grabbing Hands Music Lmtd. 4. Depeche Mode – Policy of Truth.

For the Masses is a 1998 tribute album to Depeche Mode, specifically the works of Martin Gore. The album charted in America and reached the Top 20 in Germany, making it the most successful Depeche Mode tribute album of all time. The album title is taken from Depeche Mode's 1987 album Music for the Masses. The album cover was photographed by Martyn Atkins who shot and designed early Depeche Mode artwork; the whole album artwork is consistent with the past Depeche Mode albums.

Okay, let's start quoting: This is my best Depeche Mode album I like all the songs, my best is Policy Of Truth: 1. Nodisco (Speak & Spell 1981). 2. Monument (A Broken Frame 1982). 3. Pipeline (Construction Time Again 1983). Stories Of Old (Some Great Reward 1984). 5. A Question Of Lust (Black Celebration 1986). 6. Little 15 (Music For The Masses 1987). 7. Policy Of Truth (Violator 1990).

The various singles from the album remain definite highlights, such as "A Question of Time," a brawling, aggressive number with a solid Gahan vocal, and the romantic/physical politics of "Stripped," featuring particularly sharp arrangements from Alan Wilder. However, with such comparatively lesser-known but equally impressive numbers as the quietly intense romance of "Here Is the House" to boast, Black Celebration is solid through and through.

Seventh album Violater (1990) turned Depeche Mode into a global megaband, then they released Songs of Faith and Devotion in 1993 - their first N. in both the UK and US. The accompanying tour has gone down in legend. I went to bed early once in 14 months on that tour - at Park West, outside Salt Lake City," Dave told Q in 1997. As Phil Sutcliffe wrote in Q: "Insiders allege the Scream were so shaken by Depeche Mode's level of excess that, thenceforth, they fervently foreswore si. ehold, then, Depeche Mode: the band who frightened Primal Scream into temperance. But it was not a happy time for the group. Suffering from stress and depression, Fletch temporarily left the band; Alan Wilder permanently resigned in 1995 after 13 years of service; Martin suffered seizures; and Dave's crippling addiction to hard drugs would lead to a near-fatal overdose.

Some Great Reward, issued the following year, was their artistic and commercial breakthrough, as Gore's dark, kinky preoccupations with spiritual doubt ("Blasphemous Rumours") and psychosexual manipulation ("Master and Servant") came to the fore; the egalitarian single "People Are People" was a major hit on both sides of the Atlantic and typified the music's. After a four-year layoff, Depeche Mode continued onward as a trio and released 1997's Ultra, which featured the hits "Barrel of a Gun" and "It's No Good. A year later, the band embarked on a tour in support of its newly released hits album, The Singles 86 98.
