Le Corsaire Overture - Charles Munch. 23. Benvenuto Cellini Overture - Charles Munch. 24. Roman Carnival Overture, Op. 9 - Charles Munch. Performer: William Primrose. Orchestra: Boston Symphony Orchestra. Though I was ever a big fan of Charles Munch in Berlioz, the version of Harold in Italy on which I cut my teeth was the one by Lord Menuhin and Colin Davis. Still, this version by William Primrose and Munch is a fine alternative. My biggest problem is with the piece itself, not with this performance. Harold in Italy has all the exuberance that a youthful Berlioz could put into it. In my own youth, I was enamored with it to the point of praising it in a college term paper. Alas, the advancing years have taken much of my enthusiasm with them.
