This is a live concert recording, performed in Paris presumably around 1991 as Hamidou Touré (not to be confused with Amadou Touré, a group member who died in 1983), who joined the group briefly early in the '90s, is present. There's an eight-piece band backing the four brothers and, consequently, most of the music is on the lush (arguably, overdone) side of things rather than the sparer presentation on albums like Casamance au Clair de Lune.

Touré Kunda is a Senegalese band noted for their musical versatility and political activism. They have had considerable success in Africa and Europe and are active in social causes such as Children's rights and advocates for the homeless.

Touré Kunda was originally formed in 1979 by the brothers Amadou Touré (born 1943), Ismaila Touré (born 1950), and Sixu Tidiane Touré (born 1950). Ousmane Touré (born 1955) joined the group a few years later. They were born to Soninké parents in the Casamance region of Senegal.

That same year they played their first concert at Pantin before going on to a residency at the Theatre Dunois in Paris. On the strength of their live success they released their debut album ISMAILA and SIXU and invited two of their brothers to join them to create TOURE KUNDA. Over the next two years they toured extensively, and in 1979 they released their first album on Celluloid which went gold, as did their four subsequent albums. In 1983 during a concert in Paris their older brother Amadou died of a heart attack

Toure Kunda's performance for Mandela marked one of the original group's final shows. A year later, oldest brother and bandleader Amadou Toure was struck with a fatal heart attack. After performing a memorial concert and recording a tribute album, Amadou Tito, the remaining members agreed to continue working together. Younger brother Ousmane was added.

Touré Kunda carried on, though, bringing in brother Ousmane Touré (born 1955) and paying tribute to their former bandleader with their third album, Amadou Tilo (1983). In 1984, the group successfully toured West Africa, including Mali, Cote d'Ivoire, and home country Senegal. Upon return, they recorded their fourth album Casamance Au Clair De Lune (1984). A film from the tour was shown on French television, leading to tours of France and the UK as well as the live double album, Live Paris-Ziguinchor (1984).
