Seamonsters is the third studio album by British rock band The Wedding Present. It was recorded in ten days in 1991 by American producer Steve Albini at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. Albini had previously recorded two EPs with the group, Brassneck and 3 Songs and, like those records, Seamonsters has a rougher, harsher overall sound than the group's earlier two albums.

Seamonsters is the third album by The Wedding Present, originally released in 1991. Recorded in rural Minnesota by the legendary Steve Albini (renowned for his work with Pixies, Nirvana, . Harvey et al), Seamonsters saw The Wedding Present break dramatically from their signature sound and craft a series of tangibly intense psychodramas. If David Gedge had previously sung about broken hearts, now his band were making music that sounded like hearts breaking. A pure artistic triumph.

The first proper album that The Wedding Present recorded for their new label was released in the same year 1989 and reunited them with Allison. Bizarro’s lyrical themes were largely the same as before and the songs featured the same three-chord structures, but its production values had increased due to a larger recording budget. The album was recorded at Jacobs Studios by Steve Lyon and again mixed by him there. Seamonsters, Hit Parade 1 and Hit Parade 2 were released in the United States in 1991 and 1992 by New York-based pseudo-indie label First Warning Records. Shortly after the 1992 singles scheme had ended, the band announced they were leaving RCA.

In my opinion this is Indie rock at its finest, an album so totally alive and its as fresh sounding now as it was on its release in 1991. What the hell is that noise" quizzed my new girlfriend whilst we were enjoying a country drive on a romantic sunny Sunday afternoon.

Talk about Theweddingpresent - Seamonsters

Moralsa
Viny180 gets a bad rap (perhaps deservedly so) but they did a nice job on this one. The pressing is well done (from a plant in the UK, not from GZ as some of their releases are). The music sounds dynamic and alive. I'm sure this cut from digital (i.e. 24/96) but whomever did the mastering and lacquer cutting here seems to have done a good job. Update: going by deadwax inscriptions on side B, this was cut by Greg Moore.

I'm not sure but this may have been withdrawn due to an issue with the artwork, possibly being too dark.
