Ram (stylised as RAM) is a studio album by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney, released in May 1971 on Apple Records. Ram was recorded amid McCartney's legal action in the United Kingdom's High Court to dissolve the Beatles' partnership, following the band's break-up the year before. It was recorded in New York with guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken, and future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell.

Recording after he’d left The Beatles and before the formation of Wings, Paul initially flew with Linda to New York to record the songs they'd written but arrived without a band. We went to New York, found a really grotty little basement somewhere and auditioned a bunch of people. We got someone to throw a lot of drummers at us, out of which we picked Denny Seiwell who’s one of the best, and his personality fitted. Then we went in, worked with him, Hugh McCracken, Dave Spinozza, a couple of New York session men, and did RAM.

Ram is finally released on May 17th. Despite of heavy attacks made by the critics upon this album, it becomes in the UK and US charts. On June 9th, Paul is rewarded with a Golden Record. The next two titles, Ram On and Dear Boy, are wonderfull ballads written by Paul. Ram On features a nice and unusual interpretation at the banjo. Dear Boy is played at the piano and is very skilfully enhanced by efficient backing vocals. This song is really a gem.

Released in 1971, Ram was Paul McCartney's second post-Beatles album, and was intended to contrast the homemade feel of his debut album, McCartney. Recorded in New York and Los Angeles, it featured a range of session musicians including future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell. I remember driving up to Liverpool at some point and deciding that Ram would be a good title for the album, then the picture came, and you can ram a door down, and a ram is a male, like a stag.
