Casting Shadows (2003) is the seventh and final studio album by the German synthpop duo Wolfsheim. It is their sixth full studio album. Like all of their albums, Casting Shadows is bilingual, with two tracks ("Kein Zurück" and "Wundervoll") in German, one instrumental ("In Time"), and the remainder in English. The acoustic guitar in "Kein Zurück" should be the first indication that Wolfsheim is maturing. It's a tad unusual for this synth pop notable, but this unexpected element fits in acceptably after the initial jolt. Another chance the German duo takes is slowing things down a notch. The first half of Casting Shadows hovers around 100 bpm. After the success of the dance tracks from Spectators, that may or may not be a good idea. Wolfsheim's fifth album shows signs of a band mellowing out but slightly losing its passion

Casting Shadows" is a great introduction to the music of Wolfsheim, although I'd also pick up a copy of "Spectators" as well, to fully appreciate the many nuances of Wolfsheim. It is VERY rare that I enjoy an album from beginning to end and Casting Shadows is the exception. The album generally follows suit with uplifting beats and soft lyrics. But every song manages to stand on it's own even within the genre. I can't tell you the amount of times I've played it in the background for guests who usually don't listen to this type of music and I'll hear them say: "This is nice who is this?"
