The Black Album is the eighth studio album by American rapper Jay-Z, released on November 14, 2003, by Roc-A-Fella Records. It was advertised as his final album before retiring, which is also a recurring theme throughout the songs, although Jay-Z resumed his recording career in 2006. For the album, Jay-Z wanted to enlist a different producer for each song, working with Just Blaze, Kanye West, The Neptunes, DJ Quik, Timbaland, 9th Wonder and Rick Rubin, among others.

Premo laced Jay with a sick beat for this track. This track had Jay-Z's best intro on any LP until the Dynasty album came out. (5) 2. The City is Mine - This track is hot. I love the mellow beat and it makes me feel calm everytime I hear it. I think on this one Jay was making a statement telling everyone how he was about to take over the rap game (which he has now accomplished). ) 3. I Know What Girls Like - The worst track on the album in my opinion. Even Lil' Kim's appearance can't help this track's annoying beat and the weak topic. Most definitely would recommend Jay-Z's In My Lifetime Volume 1 album. Great guest features, good records and even has excellent samples mixed into certain records. If you're a big Jay-Z fan and you do not have this album, you'll want it for your collection! Highly recommended.

Jay-Z wanted his retirement album to show that he was leaving hip-hop in fighting shape. So all pressure was on new collaborator 9th Wonder of hot underground group Little Brother, who came on board to produce Threat after he tried booking DJ Premier. Now you can argue this, 9th told Complex, but what he was trying to tell me in so many words was, ‘I want you to be like what Premo was to me on my other albums. Jay-Z had to actually stop The Black Album from being pressed to include this anthemic, last-minute reintroduction. Throughout, he answers to a journalist who had just sat through an album listening session, only to ask how he could pair a Che Guevara T-shirt with a chain.
