Ten New Songs is Leonard Cohen's tenth studio album, released in 2001. It was co-written and produced by Sharon Robinson. It was produced in Cohen's and Robinson's home studios in Los Angeles. It was also his first album in nearly 10 years. The album peaked at on the Billboard 200, in Canada (where it went platinum), in Poland (where it went platinum) and in Norway.

Ten New Songs is Leonard Cohen’s tenth studio album, released in 2001. Nine years separate it from The Future, which is the biggest gap between studio albums in Cohen’s career. Most of this period was spent in a Zen retreat in California, where Cohen went after his 1993-4 tour was over. He claimed he decided to go there because, even with the critical and public acclaim of his last two albums, he still felt deeply unhappy.

Ten New Songs is Cohen's first release of new material since 1992's The Future. Robinson (best known as a session vocalist, and pop songwriter), while certainly leaving her stamp on the proceedings as producer, arranger, performer, and co-writer on every tune, hasn't muffled Cohen's artistic voice any more than his previous collaborators.

Album · 2001 · 10 Songs. In another's hands these songs would fall easily into the cliches of soft-rock, but Cohen is too idiosyncratic, too deliberately weird and obscure, and too literate and aware to allow cliches to eclipse his soul and insight.

Leonard Cohens life should feel free to be called remarkable for a singer. The Canadian only started with the singing of songs when he was already in his thirties, and reasonably successful as a poet and novelist. The plates of Cohen are characterized by heavy melancholy and sparse instrumentation. He often got criticism on his limited singing voice. ' If people want to hear a good singer, then they go to Pavarotti listening ', this was irrefutable answer. The years for this album, there was little more of heard of him. He had allegedly withdrawn if Zenboeddhist in a monastery. Ten New Songs is a typical Cohen plate, though the characteristic Spanish guitar since been replaced by a ritmebox with some subtle Talley parties. The sonorous voice of Cohen is as always coloured by thin ladies choirs which his music a pastoral atmosphere. The album opens strong with In My Secret Life. All the songs are, unfortunately, bring a variation to this and after a while the uniformity of the plate convenient. Some more musical variation had no evil. Cohen has also apparently realizes that and decided to let the at ten songs. A poor harvest after all these years of silence.
