He also borrowed from Bill Evans, the principal creator of this album, the kind of blue that is reflected in Blue In Green. For the last time, Miles called back the pianist who had just left his quintet, and it was Evans’ harmonic conceptions, inspired by early 20th century European music, that dominated Kind Of Blue. Wynton Kelly, the group’s new pianist, only appeared once, on Freddie Freeloader, and was stung sharply by this affront: the ultimate touch of bright red to heighten the depth of the blue.
Not a classical album – a classic album. One definition would be a recording that is both of superb quality and of enduring significance.
The Sound Of Miles Davis. Alto Saxophone – Cannonball Adderley. Art Direction – Cozbi Sanchez-Cabrera. or both (I can’t hear the room anymore on the 2010 Legacy cut or on. the new Mono). The truly unfortunate part about the Vinyl portion of this 50th set is that it seems to be of a poor pressing quality, with typically moderate to sometimes terrible pressing flaws (warps, and mostly no-fill ) being widely reported.

Kind of Blue isn't merely an artistic highlight for Miles Davis, it's an album that towers above its peers, a record generally considered as the definitive jazz album. To be reductive, it's the Citizen Kane of jazz - an accepted work of greatness that's innovative and entertaining. That may not mean it's the greatest jazz album ever made, but it certainly is a universally acknowledged standard of excellence. Why does Kind of Blue posses such a mystique? Perhaps it's that this music never flaunts its genius. It lures listeners in with the slow, luxurious bassline.
Kind of Blue is widely regarded to be one of the best, if not the best, jazz album ever recorded. It also holds the record of the best-selling jazz album of all-time. While younger artists looked for guidance from Davis, he looked for new talent and ideas. Miles discovered Bill Evans in the mid-1950s, whom he eventually instated into his group. Kind of Blue Q&A. Liner Notes Bill Evans.
Kind Of Blue, released the following year, took the idea and developed it to an astounding degree. Its smoky evocation of late night ambience is a byword for laid back elegance. It uses the blues but transmutes those seventh chords into something that still sounds modern 50 years on. Quite simply, the sonic space it creates sounds like the coolest place on the planet. Key to the album's deceptive ease is the band that Miles had assembled
