Lou Courtney (born Louis Russell Pegues, August 15, 1943) is an American soul singer and songwriter who had several hit records in the 1960s and 1970s, both as a performer and writer. Born in Buffalo, New York, he graduated from Hutchinson Central Technical High School in 1962. As Lew Courtney, he first recorded for Imperial Records the same year. 4 listeners.

This album is about love, committment, heartache and life without seeming smarmy or maudlin. I can only imagine what he went through to reach the point where he came out of it with these tunes. It's a distillation of human emotion and to have been captured as it was is an amazing achievement. After cutting What Do You Want Me To Do? for the tiny Rags Records b/w Beware (Rags 100) in June 1973, it was picked up by Epic after receiving good regional play and, in Sept-Oct 1973, the A-side topped out at 48 R&B b/w Beware as Epic 11062. That was followed in March 1974 by his final charted entry, the 67 R&B I Don't Need Nobody Else b/w Why as Epic 11088.
