She's Gone" is a song written and originally performed by pop music duo Daryl Hall and John Oates. It was included on their 1973 album, Abandoned Luncheonette. The song was released as a single in 1974. It was a major hit in Hall & Oates' home market of Philadelphia and peaked nationally at on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

Daryl Hall and John Oates, often referred to as Hall & Oates, are an American pop rock duo. Daryl Hall is generally the lead vocalist; John Oates primarily plays electric guitar and provides backing vocals. The two write most of the songs they perform, separately or in collaboration. They achieved their greatest fame from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s with a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues.

Many Hall & Oates songs were written primarily by one member of the duo, but this song was an equal collaboration. In our interview with Daryl Hall, he explained that Oates came up with the chorus, which he wrote on acoustic guitar. Hall thought it sounded like the Cat Stevens song "Wild World," so he went to his Wurlitzer keyboard and reworked the groove. From there, it was a matter of finding the progression and coming up with the lyrics. John from Dallas, TxHall and Oates wrote "She's Gone" and recorded the original version for inclusion on their 1973 album Abandoned Luncheonette, and released it as a single. The song was only marginally successful at that time. Later, after Hall and Oates signed with a different label (RCA) and started having hits, Atlantic re-released the song and it became huge.

Here's the album version of Hall & Oates' "She's Gone," with the marvelous saxophone solo. I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it ( way back when, lol ). Thank you for posting. But when I woke up, my heart was having a "She's Gone" attack, immediately this song came to mind, and 14 straight turntable plays of 'She's Gone' later, I felt even worse, but I did "get it" now, and gained a much deeper appreciation for this iconic song and the impeccable ability of a great pop song to know and even.
