Thomas Helmig (born 15 October 1964) is a Danish Pop smed and musician, and has been one of the most popular singers in Denmark since the middle of the 1980s. Thomas Helmig was born and grew up in Egå, a suburb of Aarhus, where his father was a doctor. His parents divorced when he was quite young. To escape from the feelings associated with his parents' divorce, Thomas took refuge in music, most notably he spent much time teaching himself to play the piano.

In highschool bands Kaksi Kuggas Band (1981) and leadsinger in Elevatordrengene (1983). First time on record on the 1985 charity single "Afrika" released on Genlyd that soon after released his first solo album "Thomas Helmig". His next albums was released as by Thomas Helmig Brothers, a band that included members from Elevatordrengene. Throughout the 80's and 90's Helmig had several hits and was stadium league as a live act. In the 80's he sang almost exclusively in danish but changed for english in the 90's.

To escape from the feelings associated with his parents' divorce, Thomas took refuge in music, most notably he spent much time teaching himself to play the piano. At the age of 10, inspired by the Danish Band Gasolin, popular in the 70's, Thomas formed his first band and named it Heavy Oil. The following years he also learned to play the guitar and drums.

Thomas Helmig is a Danish singer songwriter, multi instrumentalist and producer. He was born in Aarhus on the 15th October 1964. Thomas Helmig leves the school bench in 1981 to pursue a carreer in music. He becomes the lead singer in Kaksi Kuggas Band. During 1981-82 he is an exchange student in Detroit, Michigan.
