On this day in 1981 Roger Taylor’s first solo album titled Roger Taylor’s Fun in Space was issued in the UK. The album was the first solo album by any member of Queen, although it wasn’t Roger’s first solo release (he had already released a single I Wanna Testify in 1977). The album was promoted by 7″ Future Management (You Don’t Need Nobody Else) single which was shown on Top of the Pops and AVROtv’s TopPop show (where he was accompanied by dummies and sort of a dancer).

Roger Meddows Taylor (born 26 July 1949) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and t, best known as the drummer for the rock band Queen. As a drummer, Taylor was recognised early in his career for his unique sound. He was voted by radio listeners as the eighth-greatest drummer in classic rock music history in a poll conducted by Planet Rock in 2005.

Queen drummer Roger Taylor's first solo album is a fairly strong set of up-tempo rockers and well-written ballads featuring Taylor's rough voice and effective croon.
