Yet behind every la-la-la (and the album is full of them) lies twentysomething confusion. Strings, synths, guitars and banjos swell against rhythms that gallop through the disappointment of Smother + Evil Hurt, and turn Soul Assassin from self-pitying to spine-tingling. But, having hit their stride from the start, the Kissaway Trail have nowhere to go. The same wall of sound is built up and knocked down in each song, and though each demolition is mesmerising, it leaves the album lacking.
