The red imported fire ant (Solenopsis invicta), or simply RIFA, is one of over 280 species in the widespread genus Solenopsis. It is native to South America but it has become both a pest and a health hazard in the southern United States as well as a number of other countries. In the 1930s, colonies were accidentally introduced into the United States through the seaport of Mobile, Alabama.

Fire ant is the common name for several species of ants in the genus Solenopsis. They are, however, only a minority in the genus, which includes over 200 species of Solenopsis worldwide. Solenopsis are stinging ants and most of their common names reflect this, for example, ginger ants and tropical fire ants. Many species also are called red ants because of their light brown color, though species of ants in many other genera are similarly named for similar reasons

When I walked in I had a reserved table with very prompt service, tried various smoked whiskeys and didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes and my next drink was on my table. My friend and I had a wonderful time and I will gladly refer it to everyone, as well as come back again and again! Thanks Niki! Great to have met you in such a way!

Impacts of Fire Ants Many aspects of imported fire ants can b. .Imported fire ants inflict painful stings and can kill human beings. There are large social and medical costs associated with fire ants. Thousands of fire ants live in just one fire ant nest. If a mound is disturbed, hundreds of ants immediately rush out, climb on whatever disturbed them, including humans, and sting. There is some debate about what triggers the ants to sting at the same time instead of individually. Generally, it will take 10 to 20 seconds after climbing up on the victim for the stinging to begin. Fire ants have been shown to decrease some pest insect numbers.

Volunteer for a political campaign. If you have more than one thing you love, find a way to combine the two. For example, if you love kids and are great at arts and crafts, visit your local children's hospital and offer to lead art activities for young patients. Find What Fits Your Schedule. That's not the main reason for volunteering, of course - if you do it just to please other people or to look good you may not enjoy it. But volunteering does show others (and yourself!) that you are reliable enough to make a commitment and show up on schedule.

When attacking, fire ants first use their mandibles to grip their prey, and then inject venom through a stinger. Fire ant stings are painful for most humans and fatal to some: if a victim experiences a severe reaction such as sweating, nausea or excessive itching, emergency medical services should be contacted immediately. Their sting, which includes alkaloid venom, is highly irritating to humans and results in red bumps and white pustules, which can ultimately lead to scarring
