A Hard Road is the third album (and second studio album) recorded by John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, released in 1967. It features Peter Green on lead guitar, John McVie on bass, Aynsley Dunbar on drums and John Almond on saxophone. Tracks 5, 7 and 13 feature the horn section of Alan Skidmore and Ray Warleigh. Peter Green sings lead vocals on "You Don't Love Me" and "The Same Way".

A Hard Road is not the most linear of John’s records, and certainly seems tame when compared to the previous release with a line up that included Eric Clapton. The unevenness is due in large part to its vast array of talent, and musical directions being explored. But I think in many ways this is what made A Hard Road such an outstanding release for its day. it made for the perfect album to be played on the fledgling progressive radio stations that were beginning to blossom across America

Eric Clapton is usually thought of as John Mayall's most important right-hand man, but the case could also be made for his successor, Peter Green. The future Fleetwood Mac founder leaves a strong stamp on his only album with the Bluesbreakers, singing a few tracks and writing a couple, including the devastating instrumental "Supernatural

I got my first John Mayall LP (Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton) in the late 60s. I was blown away by the album. I still think it is some of Eric's best work (and he was only about 21 when it was recorded)

Listen free to John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers – A Hard Road (A Hard Road, It's Over and more). Bluesbreakers album featuring Peter Green on lead guitar, rather than Eric Clapton. Peter later went on to form Fleetwood Mac, poaching the rhythm section (Mick Fleetwood and John Mcvie) from the Bluesbreakers. John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers was an English blues rock band, led by singer, songwriter, and t John Mayall, OBE. While never producing a radio-friendly hit on their own, the Bluesbreakers' greatest legacy is as an incubator for British rock and blues musicians.

Eric Clapton joins John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and then quits to form Cream - but first he records the Beano album - a classic. In 1963 he formed the Bluesbreakers, a band with probably more line-ups than any other in the history of modern music. Spotted by a Decca staff producer, Mike Vernon, who persuaded the label to sign the band. The band’s first single, ‘Crawling up the Hill’ coupled with ‘Mr. James’, was released in April 1964. Playing bass with Mayall was John McVie, and by the time Clapton rejoined the band, having hitch-hiked to Greece during the summer, in October 1965 Hughie Flint was filling the drum stool. At Clapton’s first session they cut a single for the Immediate label, produced by Jimmy Page
