Headless Cross is the 14th studio album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Released on 24 April 1989, it was the group's second album to feature singer Tony Martin and the first of three to feature drummer Cozy Powell, along with Tyr and Forbidden. According to Tony Iommi's autobiography, Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath, the band were dropped from Warner Bros. Records in 1988 after an eighteen-year deal and after Vertigo Records had also dropped them.

Ben Lawrence Headless Kross does it again, amid the smog and sludge of this doom filled platter scorching riffs rip through the consciousness. Headless Kross are the ideal soundtrack to the slow unravelling of the world as we understand it. Their sound has been described as psychedelic doom - monolithic riffs, rumbling bass and primal beats lurk behind waves of effects, all strangely underpinned by ethereal shrieks of half heard words, possibly real, possibly no. .

Luckily, Headless Cross manages to be an extremely atmospheric and robust album, despite being only 7 actual songs. Starting off the album after the intro is the riffy, mid-paced title track. Sporting both epic verses and a grand chorus, it is no surprise that this manages to be one of the best songs Black Sabbath has ever crafted. While yes, this does sound contrived and typical for a band so often regarded as being "evil" by the mainstream, this is their only album that I'm aware of that just pretty much has a direct focus on Satan, with their other albums being more focused on real life subjects, drugs and fantasy. The devilish lyrics also greatly go along with the actual songwriting present on the album, which is certainly welcome. Black Sabbath never managed to make an album better than Headless Cross either before or after it.
