Waiting for a Miracle is a sorcerous first album, at least once it sinks in, after short-to-long phases of puzzlement, bemusement, and fascination. Its songs of romantic ruin, paranoia, and doubt are spare, inelastic, and ceaselessly on edge. Even when the songs are at their bounciest and most alluring, they have an insular and alien quality.

Features Song Lyrics for The Comsat Angels's Waiting for a Miracle album. 10. Waiting for a Miracle Lyrics. 11. Independence Day Lyrics.

They debuted in 1979 with the "Red Planet" three-track single. This release attracted Polydor A&R man Frank Neilson and the band signed a three-album recording contract. These three albums – Waiting for a Miracle (1980), which included the single "Independence Day", probably their best known song, Sleep No More (1981) and Fiction (1982) – are regarded by some. The Comsat Angels reformed for a gig on 26 April 2009 as part of the Sensoria music festival at the Sheffield O2 Academy. They played tracks from their first three albums, including what many consider to be their masterpiece, Sleep No More. Mark Kermode introduced the band on stage, describing them not only as.

The Comsat Angels debut remastered, reissued and re-appraised for LTW by Ged Babey who is transported back to the early 80's and his angsty teenage years. A lot of people do remember the band and Waiting For A Miracle in particular, with some affection. It’s very lazy journalism quoting from press releases but fuck it, this says it all really; Named after the J. G. Ballard story of the same name, The Comsat Angels were born in the UK Post-Punk era. One of the most underrated acts of the early 80’s, the Sheffield four-piece twinned together sparse, economical musicianship and a large sound.

The Comsat Angels are more than worthy of this recognition. Its hard to describe Waiting for a Miracle in exact terms. It is obviously inspired by Joy Division or early Echo and the Bunnymen but more slowed down and atmospheric. Think "17 Seconds" era Cure but depressing rather than nihilistic. The band, the Sound has also garnered some attention but the Comsats were more subtle and unnerving. However, unlike U2, the Comsat Angels are not political. Their second album Sleep No More is also worth picking up but eventually they became a derivative new wave band. However, when their ideas were focused as on Waiting for a Miracle, they captured the climate of the times as successfully as other, more famous bands. Get this album before it goes out of print again.

Release Notes: Sleep No More, the second Comsat Angels album, is a confident follow-up that contains a tighter and more cutting version of Waiting for a Miracle's alluring insularity. Going by "Eye Dance," the torrid opener, one might expect a more aggressive affair, but that's not necessarily the case.
