Ralph Elias Flenniken (April 7, 1914 – December 30, 1995), known professionally as Ralph Flanagan, was a big band leader, pianist, composer, and arranger for the orchestras of Hal McIntyre, Sammy Kaye, Blue Barron, Charlie Barnet, and Alvino Rey. He was educated at Lorain High School in Lorain, Ohio, where he was a member of the National Honors Society, the student senate, the school newspaper staff (Hi-Y) and the chorus.

Ralph Flanagan And His Orchestra feat. Steve Benoric – Oh, Babe. Ralph Flanagan And His Orchestra – I ll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time. RALPH FLANAGAN & HIS ORCHESTRA – I Should Care. Ralph Flanagan And His Orchestra – Penthouse Serenade. Ralph Flanagan And His Orchestra – Where Or When. RALPH FLANAGAN & HIS ORCHESTRA – Slow Poke.

Ralph Flanagan & His Orchestra were residents at the Palladium in Hollywood throughout the '50s, and this Collectors' Choice compilation reissues a radio show recorded there in September 1958. The band's sweet renditions of "Apple Blossom Time," "Up a Lazy River," and a special Gershwin medley are competent to say the least, though the musty sound quality is a big caveat.

Ralph Flanagan had one of the best - and most popular - big bands in the post World War II era. Although influenced - as many big bands were - by the Glenn Miller sound, Flanagan's band did not blatantly copy the Miller sound but had a clearly recognizable style of its own. Many of us who were around at that time were big Flanagan fans and the Flanagan band was a top band for a while. But boy does it sound just like someone trying really hard to sound like Glenn Miller and his famous Orchestra. Lots of nice tunes such as "Dream", "Stardust" and "Smoke gets in your eyes" to help you out in the dream dancing department.
