Only one single was issued from the album: "Put Your Number in My Phone".

he's finally able to fully marry the two divergent sides of his personality: his effortless knack for reeling off torrents of sincere bubblegum beauty and his irreverent sense of humor.

That’s not to say Ariel Pink hasn’t been busy lately. Earlier works boasted a hazy, lo-fi aesthetic, but the times are a-changin'. For better or worse, Pink’s sound has become more streamlined, though never sacrificing its charm. Taken purely at face value, it would be easy to distance yourself from Pink. He carries himself like a walking parody, unabashed and bombastic.

Listen free to Ariel Pink – pom pom (Plastic Raincoats in the Pig Parade, White Freckles and more). The songs "Jell-O," "Plastic Raincoats In The Pig Parade," "Sexual Athletics," "Exile On Frog Street" and "Nude Beach A Go-Go" were co-written by Kim Fowley, from his hospital bed for Ariel to perform. The album also features vocal contributions from French singer-songwriter Soko; Pink returned the favor by co-writing and guesting on two tracks off Soko's second studio album, My Dreams Dictate My Reality (2015).

With 17 songs and over an hour of music, Pom Pom reminds us of the daring experiments from Ariel Pink's formative DIY releases. But the eclectic songwriting, turn-on-a-dime influences and lush production demonstrate just how much the California musician has evolved. Sure, the album is all over the place-we’re warmed by the ‘60s-influenced pop sunshine of Plastic Raincoats in the Pig Parade one moment and tangled in the knotty guitars of "White Freckles the next

2 Critical reception.

It’s a path Pom Pom continues down. The songs largely divide into two categories. The genres Ariel Pink is most fond of get their stylistic mannerisms draped around genuinely fantastic music. Put Your Number in My Phone is a beautiful, tightly structured, cyclical pop song.

Side 1 contains tracks 1-9, side 2 - 10-17 (not specified in the release tracklist). Limited Pink cassette. Limited to 300. Other Versions (5 of 7) View All. Cat.

Talk about Ariel Pink - Pom Pom

This is different, I've been listening to a lot of Hardcore All types Old, New, Punk, Happy, Techno, Trance,,,,,, Sometimes it's nice when you come across an album like this, The first Three Tracks just seemed to wake me up a bit and made me laugh. So I listened to most of it and feel better for it. Thanks natas_
Ariurin
anyone hear a mispress at the end of side N? I hear the first half second of Picture Me Gone.edit: I've since noticed this is present on the digital version too
Brajind
Same on my copy. It's not a mispress, just another symptom of a poorly mastered record.
playboy
Pretty sure my copy does this as well. I'll have to check though.
Thohelm
Yup, the sound is very good here, much more delicate than the high-res digital files. Too bad that my copy came badly warped on both discs.
Androlhala
anyone know which track(s) Jason Pierce appears on? : /
Eseve
Is there any way of telling the UK and the US pressing apart? I have a copy and can't work out which it is...
Unde
By far the worst sounding record I've ever bought. My MP3 copy sounds better - ick!
Kare
It's definitely not the point, unless you only buy LP's for aesthetic purposes. For a lot of people, it's a way of bypassing the loudness war on CD's because you can get away with some garbage mastering on a CD. (This album being a pretty huge offender). It wouldn't fly on an LP because the grooves can only be so wide and close together before they start to skip. Also, the distortion on it would be even more obvious than on CD. As a result, you sometimes find records that were remastered and end up sounding better than the CD does. Knowing that this wasn't pressed very well is invaluable information to the collectors that really buy these things for the way they sound.
Mohn
I mean that’s kind of the point but ok whatever you think man
Hǻrley Quinn
I was really impressed by the depth of the sound of the vinyl. It may be the same album (and even the same mastering) that I hear on Spotify, but it sounds much better! (The packaging is pretty sweet too.)
Onnell
digital release is mixed SO LOUD! how's the vinyl sounding?
Unirtay
Absolutely fantastic!
Winail
does all of these have black glitter embossed printing on the cover? mine has..
Celore
I just bought a copy off the US 4AD store, and it has the black glitter ink on the jacket.
Inabel
The US pressing doesn't have the glitter, just glossy black.
elegant stranger
I don't know, but mine has too. Pretty cool stuff.
Delan
all. at least the 1st press.
Gavikelv
At the beginning of each song you can very faintly hear the muffled sound of the impending track a couple seconds before the actual song starts. My copy of Perfume Genius's "Too Bright" and my reissue of Kid A have this quirk too. Any ideas why this happens?
Hudora
I have no pre-echo on my copy. Maybe I got lucky?
Kalv
This occurs when the grooves are cut too close together. It's called "pre-echo," and is caused by poor (or lazy) mastering. You find this a lot in modern records because cutting a decent master lacquer is becoming a bit of a lost art.It could also be due to improper cartridge alignment, but since I haven't listened to my copy of Pom Pom with headphones yet, I can't tell you if mine suffers from pre-echo or not.
Teonyo
Can I give this a 6/5 please. Awesomely diverse album that get's better the more you listen. Masterpiece.
Anarus
Where can I actually see verification that this cassette is limited to 300 copies? I've seen that figure mentioned on a few sites, but nothing that looks official.
Kigul
I believe Ariel's best work. killer from start to finish, instant classic!
Umsida
my copy has a run out groove at the end of side a... anyone else?
Foiuost
Runout on side A is locked and loops the fade out of Not Enough Violence, at least on mine.
Welahza
did you mean audio in locked groove? there's no audio on the run out on my copy.
Agamaginn
Yes, the faint sound of drums.
Abandoned Electrical
Anybody know how many cassettes were made? I know they're limited to so many at certain stores..
Winn
I've seen "Edition of 300" in a few places, mainly ebay listings.
