Long Season (stylized as LONG SEASON; subtitled. we are not four seasons) is the sixth studio album by the Japanese dub music band Fishmans, which was released on October 25, 1996. It was the first album the band released under Polydor Records. The album debuted at number 100 on the Oricon charts. After the release of Fishmans' single Season on September 26, 1996, the band took to evolving the six-minute standalone track much further

There's the intrinsic and primal percussion throughout, the antagonistic Part 3 crevassing down the middle of the record, the shyness of Part 1 repeated in the triumphant Part 5 as a stellar solution.

This record makes you feel reverent, secure, and grateful for your place on this earth. This isn't to say that this record is an easy listen; it demands considerable patience, as the album is a single long 35 minute track. However, I encourage you to cast aside your notion of one-track albums as an indulgent musical trope; this record deftly avoids cliche', as the work fits effortlessly in its lengthy run time. Much like the gradual changing of the seasons Long Season has room to breathe, but it does so without a single wasted note. This record is brimming with atmosphere, scenic imagery, and sentiment

Long Season has made it onto my short list (in case you're wondering, my other albums include: The Velvet Underground & Nico, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Beatles' Revolver, Pixies' Doolittle). The album is a 35-minute masterpiece that blends dub, dream pop, and experimental rock. It's a great starting point to dive into the Fishmans catalog and a must-listen before digesting their third and final live album (and best album overall), 9. 2. 28 Otokotachi no Wakare.
