Urban Club/Dance Contemporary Country Contemporary Pop/Rock Dance-Pop Funk Quiet Storm Reggae-Pop Soul. Laid-Back/Mellow Romantic Sensual Smooth Soothing Sweet. Priority's Chart Toppers series is an excellent budget-line collection, offering a strong selection of 15 original hits, grouped by a specific theme and decade, on each disc. Chart Toppers: R&B Hits of the 80's combines urban soul, Minneapolis funk, smooth ballads and dance-pop - an eclectic bunch, to say the least, but the variety helps capture the feeling of the decade. A few of the songs haven't dated well, but for the most part, the selection of songs is terrific, albeit a little predictable.

Of course, it also depends on the artist, the album, the country, or even the listener. There are songs that hit the top of the singles chart in the UK or elsewhere in the world - the Boomtown Rats' 1979 classic "I Don't Like Mondays", for example, the Jam's "A Town Called Malice", or David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" - which had zero chance of ever becoming a mainstream hit in America

In the '80s, disco's insistent pulse cooled, and the top 20 presents a more complicated picture than it did a decade before.

80's when my friends and I would hear this come on the radio it was pandemonium go wild and time to rock out. Sweet Child of Mine is a great song but WTTJ kicks ass and is clearly the best rock song from the 80's. When I think of the 80's their were a lot of great songs but Billie Jean was the essential song. 40 Where the Streets Have No Name - U2. Epic. I'd put this at the top. Best rock song ever. not just out of the 80's. 41 Animal - Def Leppard.

80 smash hits of the 80S. Various artists. Now 100 hits - classic rock. 100 hits - the best classical album. 02. The ultimate classical collection. 03. 40 most beautiful arias.

One of the first misconceptions to fall by the wayside will be the notion that new wave/punk rock is raw, offensive, noncommercial music, wrote Greg Shaw in a 1978 issue of Billboard. In fact, it’s now widely recognized that the new wave represents a full spectrum of musical styles with the common factor being a fresh, honest approach and a sense of cultural involvement between artists and audience. Shaw also noted that artist-owned labels, once meaningful only as demos or vanities are now commercially viable thanks to new wave marketing systems.
