The Troubled Stateside is the second full-length studio album from Long Island melodic hardcore/punk band, Crime In Stereo. It was released in April, 2006 on Nitro Records. All songs written by Crime In Stereo. Everything Changes/Nothing Is Ever Truly Lost" – 0:59. Bicycles for Afghanistan" – 2:58. Impending Glory of American Adulthood" – 3:25. I'm on the Guestlist Motherfucker" – 1:30. Abre los Ojos" – 3:28. Gravity/Grace" – 3:57.
Crime in Stereo didn’t content themselves with attacking ex-girlfriends or Bush when writing this album. The Troubled Stateside is a picture of personal and national failure, pettiness and hypocrisy and four years on it still retains the power to disturb where shallower albums have already lost their veneer of true anger. A genuinely political post-hardcore album has become something of a rarity and for that reason alone The Troubled Stateside is worth a listen but musically and lyrically this album is beautifully crafted to drive home its message.
Crime in Stereo have accomplished this with The Troubled Stateside, their Nitro debut, third release in less than a year and second full-length overall. This rush of material hasn't seemed to thin the band out too much, but in truly developing a unique identity - progressive melodic hardcore, really - with Stateside, they offer an album that's musically diverse but a bit disjointed and overall fairly uneven. There are some rather fantastic songs on The Troubled Stateside, but it's an album that's really kept afloat for its duration by the songwriting, which are some of the most well-written personal expressions and poignant observations made in some time for its genre. Crime in Stereo has definitively matured and found their niche; now they simply need to take this ambition to write songs that'll connect each other not just in the thematic sense, but in the musical one as well. Bicycles for Afghanistan.

Crime in Stereo formed in 2001 and recorded a homemade demo tape that same year. The band released their debut, a split with New York's Kill Your Idols, in 2003 on Blackout! Records. In early 2004, the band released their debut full-length in conjunction with Brightside Records, Explosives and the Will to Use Them and was well received by several punk music webzines. Sleep EP that same year with Nitro Records containing two songs from the following album, The Troubled Stateside, which was released April 18, 2006 on Nitro Records. The band left Nitro Records some time after the release of The Troubled Stateside and signed to Bridge Nine Records who released their Mike Sapone-produced third full-length, Crime in Stereo Is Dead, on October 23, 2007.

This is a great hardcore punk, emo album - like Fugazi with just enough of the Get Up Kids to bring out the best of both genres. Recommended - and their 2007 release Is Dead is on my short list.
