What Ghost Chants is, is a nicely solid album in the vein of Deathspell Omega. Outre don't quite excel with it the same way Blaze of Perdition and Absconditus have in recent memory, but at a time where I've been thirsting insatiably for this sort of black metal, it scratches the right kind of itch. If the lyrics are any indicator, Ghost Chants was a well-chosen name for this album. Outre are transfixed on the question of that cloudy, liminal region between life and true death.

Hollow Earth is superior to Ghost Chants in every way, with Outre establishing its own voice and issuing a declaration of war to all black metal artists. This album is significantly more aggressive than the debut with more creative songwriting and is, to this listener’s ears, more technically accomplished as well. The vocals are not as varied as they were on Ghost Chants, but this is not even a criticism as they still work really well within the context of this more intense album.

Poland's always been known for its strong black/death scene. The album ends just like it started, slowly yet in a determined pace, increasing tension until the very end.
