The Appetite for Destruction Tour, by American hard rock band Guns N' Roses, promoted their debut album Appetite for Destruction, released in July 1987. During its 16-month duration, the band opened for bands The Cult, Mötley Crüe, Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden and Aerosmith, and headlined shows across four continents. I was eight years old when Appetite for Destruction was released in 1987 – and I wanted a copy more than anything else in the world. My father had given me his old turntable and I was told I could spend my pocket money on whatever records I wanted. Guns N' Roses' debut, Appetite for Destruction was a turning point for hard rock in the late '80s - it was a dirty, dangerous, and mean record in a time when heavy metal meant nothing but a good time. On the surface, Guns N' Roses may appear to celebrate the same things as their peers - namely, sex, liquor, drugs, and rock & roll - but there is a nasty edge to their songs, since Axl Rose doesn't see much fun in the urban sprawl of . and its parade of heavy metal thugs, cheap women, booze, and crime.
