It reached on the UK Singles Chart in May. The single was re-released and became a hit in 1985, reaching number 2 in the UK singles charts (behind a duet I Know Him So Well by Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson. It also reached in the Netherlands and in Belgium, Switzerland and Ireland. Paul King, the frontman of the band became a VJ on MTV in 1989 and in VH1 in 1994.

King were a British new wave band which formed in 1984. The band achieved chart success in 1985, and are best known for their hit single "Love & Pride", which reached number 2 in the UK. The band had two Top 20 albums (both certified Gold) and five Top 30 singles in the space of a year. The band was formed from the remnants of Coventry rock-ska band The Reluctant Stereotypes along with producer Paul Sampson.
