Edwards, James La Rocca, Tony Sbarbaro and Larry Shields Performed by The Original Dixieland Jazz Band Recorded March 18, 1918, New York. Personnel: Nick La Rocca - cornet and director Eddie Edwards - trombone Larry Shields - clarinet Henry Ragas - piano Tony Sbarbaro - drums. Many jobs with Papa Laine 1912-16. On job in Chicago organized Original Dixieland Jazz Band. Charter members were Larry Shields (cl), Eddie Edwards (tb), Henry Ragas (p), Tony Sbarbaro (d) who later changed his name to Spargo. The group began Chicago engagement mid-1916, acquired cohesion and balance, attracted devoted fans. Big hit at Reisenweber's in New York early 1917, made famous early jazz recordings.
