Multi-woodwind instrumentalist and electronics musician/composer Sean Mac Erlaine works in musical areas where seemingly disparate worlds merge: tradition and modernity; acoustic and electronic; improvised and structured sounds. These are the threads that run throughout his work.

All sung a slender song. The music is selected from a series of solo performances recorded in Cork, Dingle, Dublin, Galway, Laois, Louth, Meath, Mitchelstown, Skibbereen, Sligo, Tralee and Wicklow between 2012 and 2013. These were completely improvised performances for woodwinds and live electronics.

A Slender Song is a collection of solo performances recorded over the past few years, and listening to it, one can but envy the audiences who witnessed them. In performance, Mac Erlaine is an absorbing spectacle, creating sound beds with percussion and electronics, to be overlaid with flute, saxophone and bass clarinet, building into vast and limitless soundscapes. Shorn of the visual, his music takes on an even more mysterious aura, creating an utterly original sonic space where free jazz and fragments of Irish trad are embraced by low hums and electronic abstraction.

Seán Mac Erlaine: Irish musician and composer specialising in woodwinds and electronics. He studied jazz performance in Newpark Music Centre under Ronan Guilfoyle where he also taught for a number of years before completing his formal education at Dublin Institute of Technology where he was awarded a Masters in Jazz Performance as well as a PhD focusing on solo woodwind performance with live electronics.
