Fade is the thirteenth full-length album by American indie rock band Yo La Tengo. It was produced by John McEntire, instead of Roger Moutenot, who had produced all their albums since 1993's Painful. It was recorded at Soma in Chicago, in the summer of 2012. It was released on January 15, 2013. Stupid Things" was released on 12" and CD on September 25, 2012, prior to the album release. It contains a different version of the title song.

Yo La Tengo (often abbreviated as YLT) is an American indie rock band formed in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1984. Since 1992, the lineup has consisted of Ira Kaplan (guitars, piano, vocals), Georgia Hubley (drums, piano, vocals), and James McNew (bass, vocals). In 2015, original guitarist Dave Schramm rejoined the band and appears on their fourteenth album, Stuff Like That There.

Deep into their career, Yo La Tengo's sense of craft is intact. Fade, at a tight 10 songs and 46 minutes, is the band's shortest album since 1990's Fakebook; it may tread over some familiar turf, but the relaxed pacing and pleasing melodies belie just how much action is really going on beneath the serene surfaces. Yo La Tengo's classic mid-1990s run ( Painful, Electr-o-Pur a, and I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One ) perfectly embodied the era's collective embrace of the p-device

Fade manages to achieve a laid-back sound overall, while still approaching the sonic distortions and noise that made me love Yo La Tengo in the first place! The first track, "Ohm," features a catchy, poppy vocal melody backed by distorted guitars. It is a great start to a great album. If you're not careful, you might think you were transported back in time a few decades while listening to this album! This is the same Yo La Tengo you have come to love, and this album features a consistent mood throughout, without any of the tracks going too far in any one direction

Album art borrowed from Yo La Tengo. Yo La Tengo are a three piece New Jersey band formed in the late eighties, wilfully obscure, and despite being universally loved by critics, they have managed to remain at the edges of a lot of peoples’ musical awareness. How do they sound? Well it’s hard not to think of the Velvet Underground, if not always musically then certainly spiritually. Guitar, bass and drums, songs that don’t take the obvious route.

Fade is content to settle in on a quiet, pop-inflected sound that the group has been moving towards ever since the early ‘90s, with the nearest musical landmark being 2003’s hushed, vastly underrated Summer Sun. Their more recent albums have seen the band opening up to a wider palette than longtime fans might be comfortable with - chamber pop strings and bluesy templates sprinkled here and there amidst the ten-minute-plus noise jams - but on Fade, the subtle dips into Motown or surf rock or ‘60s soul are natural outgrowths of a Yo La Tengo sound that. already feels classic.

Album · 2013 · 10 Songs. See All. I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One. 1997. There's a Riot Going On. 2018. I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass.

Solid and dependable, Fade is another album in a long line of impressive works that, whilst never setting a cultural agenda, is always returned to for satisfying rewards. It's one of the main reasons that Yo La Tengo have been around for so long and with so much quality to justify their existence. There's love in these songs – a love of writing them, a love of recording them and a love of playing them. This is lovely, joyous and pure music. Open your door and open your hearts once more. Both you and Yo La Tengo deserve each other.
