The Galilean Satellites by Rosetta, released 14 February 2006 1. Departe 2. Europa 3. Absent 4. Itinerant 5. Au Pays Natal 6. Deneb 7. Capella 8. Beta Aquilae 9. Ross 128 10. So. Atmospheric atever has become rather stale from the past several years but this album is one of the best of the sub genre. This is up there with Neurosis, Isis and Cult of Luna's pinnacle albums. It's nice this download features the original second ambient/noise disk.

In the end, it is this clever twist, which, in retrospect, seems like such an obvious experiment for this kind of music, that earns Rosetta a special place among their peers. Track Listing - Disc 1. Title/Composer.

In fact, while it isn't necessarily a concept album by any means, the theme set to The Galilean Satellites is a story of a man who grows weary of the world around him and leaves everything behind to travel away (to Europa). With the exception of the final portions of Itinerant, most of the lyrics are shouted forth with ferocity which at times leaves things a touch too chaotic to make out the said space man's inner dialogue.

American sludge-metal band Rosetta has managed to get out of anonymity with their massive, highly ambitious debut, Galilean Satellites - a double-album consisting of two very distinct halves. The first part brings the band's fantastic brand of sludge/post-metal, in a strong set of vicious lenghty compositions. The songs up until the half of the album's total runtime are, for the most part, very well written, with distinct structures, varied progressions that include skillful riffage and sharp.

The discs can be played separately. Or both sides can be synchronized so that the songs complement one another creating an entirely new mix.

An acoustic, unmastered version of track 1-5 "Au Pays Natal", lyrics and band photographs are located on a password protected site only accessible with the username & password supplied on the interior of the booklet.

The first edition was released in 2005 in a gatefold-digipak and was limited to 1000 copies.
The second edition (this entry) was released in 2006 in a regular jewel case.
