Edd Donovan is a highly distinctive singer and songwriter with a rare, original talent. His sound is heartfelt – comforting, yet challenging – wise. Originally from Merseyside, he has made his home in Cheltenham. His critically acclaimed début album, Something To Take The Edge Off, was released in April 2014. Edd released his second album, Making Mountains (Vol. 1), on 3rd June 2016.

Edd Donovan and his Wandering Moles have meandered into Camden for the London launch of Something To Take The Edge Off. It’s a cracking show too, with plenty of surprises in the se. I was surprised to find that the Moles are at pretty much full strength, which is a good thing, but quite how the six of them fit onto the tiny stage at the Green Note is quite remarkable. Admittedly the drummer and record’s producer Paul Arthurs has stripped back his kit, but is joined in the back line by double bassist James Agg and Keyboard player Chads Bradbury.

Donovan's second album found the Scottish folkie in possession of his own voice, a style of earnest, occasionally mystical musings indebted neither to Woody Guthrie nor Bob Dylan. The folkie "Colours," already a hit before the album's release, is also here (though without Donovan's harmonica).
