The Time is the 1981 debut album by The Time. The album proper was produced and arranged by Prince (using the moniker Jamie Starr) The Time produced three singles: "Get It Up", "Cool" and "Girl", with the first two charting within the top ten on the R&B charts. Cool" was covered by Snoop Dogg for his ninth album, Ego Trippin'.

In 1974, the band switched to Virgin Records with the release of Phaedra, thus the Virgin Years. The switch to the Jive Records label with their blue logo was the start of the Blue Years beginning with Poland in 1984. The Melrose Years started when Tangerine Dream switched to Peter Baumann's Private Music label, located on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles; the first release was Optical Race (1988). The extreme case is Live Miles, of which less than a third had been performed live at the time of its release.

Joni Mitchell's first live album arrived at the peak of her fame. Recorded a couple months after her breakthrough Court and Spark debuted, the Canadian singer-songwriter documented the California stops on the tour supporting the new LP. Performing an expansive collection of tracks from her 1968 debut Song to a Seagull onward, Miles of Aisles carefully avoided the hits.
