Concierto de Aranjuez is a studio album by jazz harpist Dorothy Ashby released via the Philips Records label in 1984 Contents. The Concierto de Aranjuez is a composition for classical guitar and orchestra by the Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo. Written in 1939, it is by far Rodrigos best-known work, the work attempts to transport the listener to another place and time through the evocation of the sounds of nature. According to the composer, the first movement is animated by a rhythmic spirit and he described the concerto itself as capturing the fragrance of magnolias, the singing of birds, and the gushing of fountains in the gardens of Aranjuez.

Ashby revolutionized the jazz harp and extended its use in modern jazz and bebop music (make sure you check out her early albums if you're not familiar with, like Hip Harp or those with Frank Wess)!Side A:00:00 - Concierto De Aranjuez (J. Criminal and shameful that no US record company was willing to issue this and other later albums of hers. Probably b/c the record and the artist didn't "fit" any of their labels or categories: Ashby was a woman, playing a harp, and mixing jazz (her improvisations) and classical music (though the Aranjuez concerto is also basically improvisations on many anonymous melodies). No money in it? Even with this famous concerto and Gershwin and the Beatles on the playlist?
